"Dr. Evans' private practice began in Hallandale Beach in 2001. She has been in South Florida since 1999, when she accepted an internship in Clinical Psychology at the University of Miami School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Evans began her career in mental health in 1992. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. A former high school mathematics teacher and tutor, Dr. Evans graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a double major in mathematics and education. She became intrigued with the assessment of achievement and intelligence, which led her to graduate study in psychology.

Dr. Evans has many years of experience in a variety of psychological assessment applications including the assessment of psychopathology, learning disabilities/giftedness, and neurocognitive functioning (e.g., dementia screening). She has also performed employment related evaluations, court evaluations, and psychological readiness for elective surgery (e.g., cosmetic, gastric bypass). In addition to assessment and psychotherapy, Dr. Evans has worked as a consultant and presented on a variety of topics including Suicide and the Elderly, Neuropsychological Assessment of Seizure Disorders, and Abuse of Nursing Staff.

Prior to full-time private practice, Dr. Evans served as Director of Outpatient Mental Health at Broward Correctional Institution, a maximum-security women's prison. She stated that this experience was invaluable for understanding the most common emotional conflict - loss. Dr. Evans maintains that most emotional disturbances are the result of loss. She refers to an old adage that depression is the result of loss, and anxiety is the anticipation of loss. Dr. Evans notes that losses occur in many contexts: loss of a loved one, marriage, parental responsibility, job, health, finances, independence, freedom, innocence, etc. Throughout our lives, each transitional stage of human development involves loss and the grief process associated with loss. However, these transitions also involve adaptation, growth, newfound wisdom, empathy, and the ability to serve as a mentor and source of support for others.

According to Dr. Evans, the key to a rewarding and fulfilling life is the ability to adapt to change and utilize change for the benefit of self and others. Currently, Dr. Evans' practice primarily consists of helping adults struggling with depression, anxiety/panic, bereavement/loss, relationship issues, trauma, and life crises and transitions. According to Dr. Evans, the prognosis is always good following a first visit. Given the effort it takes to find a therapist, make arrangements with the insurance company, and actually show up for the appointment, the clear message is one of motivation for change, healing, and growth."
